Strength That Looks Like Staying

Strength That Looks Like Staying

I've spent most of my life training to leave.

Deployments. Training exercises. Expeditions. Airports before sunrise. Missions that required me to walk away from the people I loved for a season.

Sometimes leaving was necessary. It was the job. But over the years, I've learned that not every challenge requires moving toward something new. Some require staying exactly where you are.

The military rewards action. So do mountains. Progress is measured in distance gained, objectives completed, and ground covered. Life isn't always like that.

Some of the most important things I've ever built required staying. Staying committed when the path becomes ordinary. Staying engaged when life becomes routine. Staying faithful to the people and responsibilities already in front of me.

The older I get, the more I realize that endurance isn't always about how far you're willing to go. Sometimes it's about how long you're willing to remain.

Strong marriages are built that way. Trust is built that way. Character is built that way. Not through dramatic moments, but through consistent commitment over time.

So here's my question for you:

Where in your life is the next right step not moving on, but remaining committed to what already matters most?

Sometimes strength looks like going. Sometimes it looks like staying. Knowing the difference is wisdom.
